FAQ

Frequently asked questions about BlaBLaTeX

BlaBLaTeX is a simple and fast collaborative LaTeX writing platform. It lets you write, compile, and share scientific projects online, with a smooth experience and strong LaTeX compatibility.

The service focuses on simplicity, speed, and sovereign hosting. It does not impose arbitrary limits on compilation or on the number of collaborators (active account required), and avoids reliance on services outside the European Union.

Students, PhD candidates, academics, engineers, R&D teams, and anyone producing technical or scientific documents in LaTeX, individually or in a team.

BlaBLaTeX is based on the open-source Overleaf Community Edition (AGPLv3 license). The functional scope corresponds to the CE version. BlaBLaTeX is not affiliated with Overleaf and does not provide the features of Overleaf’s commercial offer. More about the license: AGPL v3.

Yes, via a ZIP archive. Compatibility with most LaTeX templates is ensured.

Yes. BlaBLaTeX includes a full track changes feature, allowing you to view, comment, accept, or reject changes made in a project. This feature is particularly useful for reviews, corrections, and supervised scientific work.

Data is hosted within the European Union. The service operates under European law and does not transfer data outside the EU. The CLOUD Act and the Patriot Act are US laws targeting mainly providers under United States jurisdiction. BlaBLaTeX is not operated by a US provider and is therefore not directly subject to those laws. For compliance and regulatory references, see: GDPR information (European Union).

In a secure data center located in the European Union and compliant with the GDPR. No transfers outside the EU are performed. Details (retention periods, security measures, data subject rights) are provided in the Privacy Policy.

The service does not enforce arbitrary limits on compilation time or access to CPU resources. The number of collaborators per project is unlimited, provided each person has an active account. Planned maintenance or external incidents (power, network, security) may nonetheless occasionally affect availability.

A complete TeX Live distribution, regularly updated. The pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX, and LuaLaTeX engines are available.

The monthly €2 subscription covers access to the service, with no advertising. No long-term commitment and no automatic renewal. You are informed before the renewal date so that you can decide whether to continue.

If the subscription is not renewed, the account is deactivated on the anniversary date of subscription/activation. From that deactivation date, access (login, edit, compilation, collaboration) is no longer possible.

Before this date, you can export your projects and retrieve your files. After deactivation, data is scheduled to be automatically deleted in a secure way, in accordance with our internal purge procedure (with no retention beyond any applicable legal obligations).

You can request earlier deletion at any time via the contact form.

Yes. BlaBLaTeX can be deployed for organizations (companies, universities, research laboratories, engineering schools, R&D centers, public bodies, etc.) with a dedicated or isolated environment.

Depending on your needs, several scenarios are possible:
  • a dedicated server hosted in the European Union for your organization only;
  • an isolated (private instance) environment for a group, school, or university;
  • integration with your existing systems (SSO / directory, security constraints, monitoring, etc.).
We can work with you to make BlaBLaTeX available to a large number of people (students, faculty, researchers, project teams) on the most appropriate setup.

For an assessment of your needs (volumes, number of users, confidentiality requirements, hosting type), you can write to us via the contact page.

The model is intentionally simple: a single price, no ads, with consistent resources. There is no free or time-limited trial offer.
