FAQ

BlaBLaTeX FAQ

Answers about the LaTeX editor, collaboration, Git, EU hosting and subscriptions.

BlaBLaTeX is a LaTeX editor designed for academic, scientific and technical documents. It lets you write, compile and share LaTeX projects, on your own or with a team.

BlaBLaTeX focuses on simplicity, speed and hosting within the European Union. The service does not impose arbitrary limits on compilations or on the number of collaborators, provided each collaborator has an active account.

Students, teachers, PhD candidates, researchers, and anyone producing academic, scientific or technical documents with LaTeX.

BlaBLaTeX is based on the open-source Overleaf Community Edition (AGPLv3 licence). Its feature set corresponds to the Community Edition. BlaBLaTeX is not affiliated with Overleaf. Licence details: AGPL v3.

Yes, using a ZIP archive. Compatibility with most LaTeX templates is ensured.

Yes. BlaBLaTeX includes a track changes feature that lets you view, comment, accept or reject changes within a project. This feature is particularly useful for reviews, proofreading and supervised work.

Git provides precise tracking of a LaTeX project: every change is recorded, different versions can be compared, and you can return to a previous state whenever needed.

In BlaBLaTeX, Git is integrated into a centralized compilation environment using a shared TeX Live distribution for all users. Documents are therefore compiled under the same conditions regardless of the operating system or workstation used.

This approach improves compilation reproducibility and makes it easier to work across multiple computers or within a team.

A dedicated documentation page explains Git principles and best practices for LaTeX projects: Git version control for LaTeX projects.

Yes. BlaBLaTeX allows you to link a project to a GitHub repository and synchronize changes between the editor and your repository. This integration makes collaborative work, version tracking and GitHub workflows easier while preserving BlaBLaTeX's editing and compilation features.

Yes. BlaBLaTeX lets you connect your Zotero account and import a library or collection directly into a LaTeX project as a .bib file.

When you update your references in Zotero, the bibliography file can be refreshed directly from BlaBLaTeX.

Your data is hosted within the European Union in a secure data centre compliant with the GDPR. No data is transferred outside the EU. Details about retention periods, security measures and your rights are available in the Privacy Policy.

We implement security and reliability measures to protect your data. However, no online service is completely immune to incidents (hardware failures, human error, external events, etc.).

We therefore recommend that you keep regular backups of your projects (ZIP export, Git repository, local storage or any backup solution of your choice) and avoid keeping a single copy of your documents only on BlaBLaTeX.

The service does not impose arbitrary limits on compilation time or access to CPU resources. The number of collaborators per project is unlimited, provided each collaborator has an active account. Scheduled maintenance or external incidents may occasionally affect availability.

BlaBLaTeX uses a complete TeX Live distribution that is regularly updated. The pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX and LuaLaTeX engines are available.

Two options are available: €3 per month or €24 per year. The features are identical; only the payment method differs. Details are available on the Pricing page.

If your subscription is not renewed, your account is deactivated on its anniversary date. From that point onwards, access to the service (login, editing, compilation and collaboration) is no longer possible.

Before this date, you can export your projects and retrieve your files. After deactivation, your data is scheduled for secure automatic deletion in accordance with our data retention policy.

You may also request early deletion at any time via the contact form.

Yes. BlaBLaTeX can be deployed for organisations (companies, universities, laboratories, engineering schools, R&D centres, public institutions, etc.) with a dedicated or segregated environment.

Depending on your requirements, several deployment options are available:
  • a dedicated server hosted within the European Union for your organisation only;
  • a segregated (private) environment for a school, university or research group;
  • integration with your existing systems (SSO, directory services, security constraints, monitoring, etc.).
To discuss your requirements (number of users, expected workload, confidentiality requirements or hosting model), please contact us via the contact page.
