Frequently asked questions about BlabLaTeX

BlabLaTeX is a collaborative LaTeX writing platform, designed to be simple and fast. It lets you write, compile and share scientific projects online, with a smooth experience and broad LaTeX compatibility.

The service focuses on simplicity, speed and European hosting. It does not impose arbitrary limits on compilation or on the number of collaborators (each person needs an active account), and avoids dependence on non-EU cloud providers.

Students, PhD candidates, lecturers, researchers, engineers, R&D teams, and anyone producing technical or scientific documents in LaTeX, alone or as a team.

BlabLaTeX is built on the open-source Overleaf Community Edition (AGPLv3 licence). The functional scope corresponds to the Community Edition. BlabLaTeX is not affiliated with Overleaf and does not provide the features of Overleaf’s commercial offering. Licence details: AGPL v3.

Yes, via a ZIP archive. The platform is compatible with most LaTeX templates.

Yes. BlabLaTeX includes a full track changes feature, allowing you to see, comment on, accept or reject edits made in a project. It is particularly useful for proofreading, supervision and collaborative scientific writing.

Data is hosted within the European Union, in an EU-based data center. The service operates under European law and does not transfer data outside the EU. The CLOUD Act and the Patriot Act are U.S. laws that primarily target providers under U.S. jurisdiction. BlabLaTeX is not operated by a U.S. provider and is therefore not directly subject to these laws. For regulatory references, see the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Within the European Union, in a secure data center compliant with GDPR. No data is transferred outside the EU. Details (retention periods, security measures, data subject rights) are provided in the Privacy Policy.

The service does not impose arbitrary limits on compilation time or CPU usage. The number of collaborators per project is unlimited, as long as each collaborator has an active account. Planned maintenance or external incidents (power, network, security) may temporarily affect availability.

A complete TeX Live distribution, updated regularly. The pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX and LuaLaTeX engines are available.

The yearly subscription of €14.90 (incl. VAT) covers access to the service, with no ads. There is no commitment and no automatic renewal. You are notified before the renewal date so you can decide whether to renew.

If the subscription is not renewed, the account is deactivated on the anniversary date of your subscription/activation. From that date, access to the service (login, editing, compilation, collaboration) is no longer possible.

Before deactivation, you can export your projects and download your files. After deactivation, data is scheduled to be automatically and securely deleted, in line with our internal data-purge procedure (without storing it beyond any applicable legal obligations).

You can request early deletion at any time via the contact form.

Yes. BlabLaTeX can be deployed for organisations (companies, universities, research labs, engineering schools, R&D centers, public institutions, etc.) with a dedicated or isolated environment.

Depending on your needs, several scenarios are possible:
  • dedicated server hosted in the EU, reserved for your organisation;
  • isolated environment (private instance) for a school, faculty or research unit;
  • integration with your existing systems (SSO / directory, security constraints, monitoring, etc.).
We can work with you to provide BlabLaTeX to a large number of users (students, lecturers, researchers, project teams) on the most suitable setup.
