FAQ

BlaBLaTeX FAQ

Answers about the LaTeX editor, collaboration, Git, EU hosting and subscriptions.

BlaBLaTeX is a LaTeX editor designed for academic, scientific and technical documents. It lets you write, compile and share LaTeX projects, on your own or with a team.

BlaBLaTeX focuses on simplicity, speed, and hosting in the European Union. The service does not impose arbitrary limits on compilations or the number of collaborators (active account required).

Students, teachers, PhD candidates, researchers, and anyone producing academic, scientific or technical LaTeX documents.

BlaBLaTeX is based on the open-source Overleaf Community Edition (AGPLv3 license). The functional scope matches the CE version. BlaBLaTeX is not affiliated with Overleaf. License details: AGPL v3.

Yes, using a ZIP archive. Compatibility with most LaTeX templates is ensured.

Yes. BlaBLaTeX includes a track changes feature that lets you view, comment, accept or reject changes in a project. This is especially useful for reviews, corrections and supervised work.

Git provides structured and reliable tracking of a LaTeX project: version history, change comparison, rollback to a previous state, and controlled collaboration between multiple contributors.

In BlaBLaTeX, Git fits naturally into a centralized compilation environment: documents are compiled on the server with the same TeX Live distribution and packages for all users.

This ensures consistent, reproducible output regardless of workstations and operating systems (Windows, Linux, personal or institutional machines), and avoids divergences caused by local installations. It is especially suited to teaching, academic and collaborative contexts.

A dedicated documentation page presents Git principles and best practices applied to LaTeX: Git version control for LaTeX projects.

Bibliography management is done on your local machine with Zotero (often with the Better BibTeX extension), which generates a BibTeX (.bib) file.

This .bib file is saved in the folder of the project cloned with Git. Git then syncs changes back to BlaBLaTeX (git push), avoiding separate versioning between local work and the SaaS service.

This workflow is common in research and labs: Zotero for references, Git for traceability and collaboration, BlaBLaTeX for centralized LaTeX compilation.

In the European Union, in a secure data center compliant with GDPR. No transfer outside the EU is performed. Details (retention periods, security measures, rights) are described in the Privacy Policy.

We implement security and reliability measures to protect your data. However, no online service is entirely immune to incidents (outages, human error, external events, etc.).

We therefore recommend that you regularly keep a copy of your projects (ZIP export, Git repository, local storage or a solution of your choice) and avoid keeping a single copy of your documents only on BlaBLaTeX.

The service does not impose arbitrary limits on compilation time or CPU resources. The number of collaborators per project is unlimited, provided each person has an active account. Scheduled maintenance or external incidents may occasionally affect availability.

A full TeX Live distribution, regularly updated. pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX and LuaLaTeX engines are available.

Two options: €3 / month or €24 / year. Features are identical — only the payment frequency changes. Details on the Pricing page.

If the subscription is not renewed, the account is deactivated on the anniversary date. From that moment, access (login, editing, compilation, collaboration) is no longer possible.

Before that date, you can export your projects and retrieve your files. After deactivation, data is scheduled to be securely deleted automatically, in accordance with the retention policy.

You can request early deletion at any time via the contact form.

Yes. BlaBLaTeX can be deployed for organizations (companies, universities, labs, engineering schools, R&D centers, public agencies, etc.) with a dedicated or isolated environment.

Depending on your needs, several scenarios are possible:
  • dedicated server hosted in the European Union, for your organization only;
  • isolated environment (private instance) for a group, school or university;
  • integration with your existing systems (SSO / directory, security constraints, monitoring, etc.).
To discuss your needs (volume, number of users, confidentiality requirements, hosting type), you can write to us via the contact page.

The model is intentionally simple: clear pricing, no ads, and consistent resources. There is no free plan and no limited trial.
